The Premise: They could sing, they could dance and for almost a decade, they ruled the airwaves, maintaining a stranglehold on their bustling, female, TRL-addicted audience. They were dubbed “the Boy Bands” and during their Golden Age, the likes of N-Sync, Backstreet Boys, 98 Degrees and O-Town spawned a legion of imitators that seemed to multiply unchecked.
But it could not last. Trends change and now a whole generation of former Boy Band heart throbs has found themselves looking toward life after Teen Idol-dom.
Alas, it would seem the days when a snap of their fingers brought the spoils of Pop Stardom to their feet are long over. Or are they?
VH1's new series MISSION: MAN BAND dares to ask the question, "Can four grown up Boy Band heart throbs join forces to capture new fame and fortune?"
The Experiment: Five Boy Band Legends live together for three weeks, create new music, a dynamic stage show and perform as a new pop group. Will lightning strike twice?
The Cast: While every former Boy Band heart throb has his own story, many are remarkably similar. Some achieved true Superstardom; others were delivered crushing blows by bad management, shady producers and a public that didn't want to see them grow up. For every survivor story, there are those who barely made it out of the Boy Band Machine alive.
Each member of the cast finds himself at a different stage in his career. Some may be confident, financially comfortable and just looking to make new music. Some might be stacking produce after being forced to take a day job. Still others may have faced profound life challenges (divorce, illness etc.) that have changed their outlook and given them something to write about.
Now, they are given a real chance to make it on THEIR terms. Who are they?

With 20/20 hindsight, can they avoid the pitfalls of the past? Given all the tools they need (recording studio, stellar producer etc.) will they let go of old baggage, move forward and make the magic happen?
MISSION: MAN BAND answers the question - can talent win out and find these former Teen idols a new audience?
The City: The action is set in a luxurious mansion in Orlando, Florida.
Why Orlando? Orlando is Boy Band central. What Detroit is to Motown, Orlando is to the Boy Bands. It’s like the Golden Age never ended. Girls scream. Drinks are free. Autographs get signed and they never go home alone.
The Mission: To restore these five artists to their rightful place in the music industry and to re-launch their careers as the ultimate Pop Group.
This series is about professional and personal rebirth, redemption and to prove in the end that true talent wins out they will:
 • Create a brand new band with its own identity, attitude, and musical style
• Write, produce, and record a brand new Pop Anthem for their loyal fans and the new generation that will fall in love through this series
From the writing sessions and the rehearsals to the late night parties, the reality behind-the-scenes of this experiment will be highlighted each episode through a well defined challenge/theme.
In the end, they'll have all the resources they need to make the magic happen. They’re fate is placed in their own hands. All that stands in their way… is themselves. |
